Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 24 (ANI): Lauding the performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the last 10 years, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has freed the country from the "symbols of slavery" which existed since the times of Mughals and Britishers.

The Home Minister also inaugurated the election office of PM Modi in Varanasi.

Addressing a public meeting in Varanasi, Amit Shah said, "PM Modi has freed the entire country from corruption, casteism, nepotism, appeasement, inferiority-complex, terrorism, naxalism and has also freed the country from the symbols of slavery which were there since the times of Mughals and Britishers."He said that bringing PM Modi back to power would ensure making India the third largest economy and make all conflict-inflected regions free from terrorism.

"Making PM Modi the PM for the third term means making our country's economy the third largest economy in the world, making 3 crore 'Lakhpati didi', making Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan and Aditya L1 successful, and making Kashmir, North-East and naxal affected areas free from terrorism," the Home Minister said.

Shah said that PM Modi came to Varanasi 50 times despite having a busy schedule and every time brought some new gift for the constituency.

"India is the world's largest democracy and PM Modi says it is the 'Mother of Democracy'. For that, the election is not the medium of choosing the government or changing the government, it is the festival of democracy," Shah said.

He added, "In 2014, PM Modi decided to contest from Varanasi on the invitation of Goddess Ganga...the 10 years of PM Modi-led government will be written in golden words in India's history."The Home Minister called on the BJP workers to campaign with full might for PM Modi and BJP in the constituency and gave them instructions for achieving the target of '400 paar'.

"Just like Arjun, we have to remain concentrated for our booths and increase voting. Secondly, we have to take the achievements of the Modi government; Ram Mandir, abrogation of Article 370, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, bringing 25 crore people out of poverty; to each and every house. You all have to bring everyone into the resolve of making India a developed nation by 2047," he further stated.

Uttar Pradesh sends maximum 80 MPs to the Parliament. Eight constituencies will go to polls in the second phase on June 26. The counting of votes is scheduled on June 4. (ANI)
